What’s new

October 12, 2011 By: manager Category: Uncategorized

It’s been a whirlwind month of learning for the crew @ Reflections West Salon. Deb and Melissa completed a training consisting of Men’s Trend Cutting, Long Hairdressing (Up-do’s), a business class and Women’s Trends in Cutting! They are excited to share all these techniques with you. The business of beauty is a rapidly changing one and we’re keeping up with it.

It’s been a month of computer know how for Sharon, just recently returning from a seminar in Buffalo, New York and Boston, Mass. regarding what we can expect with our friend the computer. Exciting things coming.

While I was in Buffalo, Deb was busy taking an Advanced Color Class for 3 Days. Deb is advancing her career to become a board certified Colorist. We’re very excited for her.

As we continue to educate ourselves on the latest and greatest changes in the image business we just would like to say “thank you” to all of you that continue to support us through your visits to our Salon. We look forward to always being on top of what’s new and bring it to you.

Last Minute Appointments

August 17, 2011 By: manager Category: Appointments

It seems with our hectic schedules making time for a hair, skin or nail appointment is last on everyones list. When we finally take a glance at ourselves in the mirror, it’s a 911 hair emergency call to your salon. Fingers crossed you ask for your favorite stylist and her or his next available appointment. To your disappointment, it’s two weeks out. “Put me in” you respond.

Realize this.  Your stylist schedules clients that realize the importance of a pre-booked appointment to maintain looking their best. When you fail to pre-book an appointment you leave yourself wide open for disappointment and perhaps hair, skin or nails that look like you feel, disappointed.

Keep in mind also. Pre-booked appointments are valuable real estate. Allotted time, just for you. Leaving a credit card number for a guaranteed appointment is becoming the norm for busy salons with limited availability.

NO SHOW clients hurt everybody. Remember the two week out appointment you had to make????  NO SHOWS hurts the stylist, the salon and mostly the disappointed client that desired the appointment previously scheduled that became a NO SHOW.

Humidity and Hair

July 20, 2011 By: manager Category: Uncategorized

The other day I was shopping in an office supply store and the clerk said to me “I was late for work this morning, because I couldn’t do anything with my hair, this humidity makes it hard to work with”

Has this happened to you?

Humidity can raise havoc on your hair because humidity is water and it weighs down hair that may already be burdened with product residue from shampoo’s, conditioners and styling aids. It is best to use a clarifying shampoo to remove this build up. It is beneficial to  ask for a clarifying treatment at your salon. Professionals will use the correct clarifier for your hair and finish with a conditioner that is water soluble and will not build up on your hair.

We use Eufora and Brocato products at Reflections West Salon. Eufora products are 75%-85% pharmaceutical  grade Aloe Vera. A soothing product line for your hair. Brocato offers a Peppermint Scrub Clarifier along with many sulfate (salt) free shampoo’s that are gentle for your hair and your hair color.

So if you hair is limp and lifeless with the humidity, check with your stylist and ask if you may need to remove some of the build up that is on your hair. Always follow any shampoo with a conditioner specifically recommended for your hair type.

What color is best for you?

June 29, 2011 By: manager Category: Uncategorized

When you look at yourself in the mirror and think “I wonder what color would look best on me,” the answer is simple. You have either warm skin tones or cool skin tones. Hair color has the ability to bring out those skin tones when chosen correctly. What color are your eyes? What is your personality? All these questions must be considered when choosing your particular color. Your stylist will help you find just the right color or colors and placement of color that will look great! Hair color maintenance is an important factor in your final decision on color. Will you be committed to coming into the salon every 5-6 weeks to refresh your color? There are all sorts of options for you to consider when choosing hair color. You could highlight with minimal upkeep depending on how much hair is colored. A partial foiling makes your hair look like you’ve been in the sun, stunning and you can always add more highlights anytime you would like. Semi permanent color fades off your hair with ease and can last up to 10 weeks. It will not make your hair lighter, but a shade or two darker with a tone to compliment your skin looks wonderful. Discuss all your options with your stylist, color, pricing, your time investment. Get all the facts for an informed decision on your part and have fun. Hair color is an easy way to change your mind about how you feel looking in the mirror. Call Reflections West Salon @ 924-6627 and enjoy a FREE $35 value “We Care Consultation.”

Feather Extensions

June 22, 2011 By: manager Category: Current Trends

Feather extensions are a great way to add color and some fun detail to your hair. These feathers come in an array of colors. There are solid colors and what is called Grizzly style, which is two colors on one feather. Feather extensions are applied to your hair with a silicone coated aluminum bead that is attached with a tool to flatten the bead once the position of  the feather extension is chosen and your choice of feather or feathers is picked. We then add the feather extensions to the strand of hair. The feathers can be cut to the desired length chosen. Feather extension can be washed, cut, dried and can be removed before hair color and reapplied. They can be attached to any area of the head. The feather extensions add a subtle glimpse of color and texture to all hair colors and hair types. Call  924-6627 today and stop by for an affordable quick color change. Get noticed!

What to expect when you color your own hair at home

June 13, 2011 By: manager Category: Uncategorized

I love to watch the TV and magazine ads about how easy it is to color your own hair and the results being long flowing shiny locks.

Ask yourself, did the model really color her own hair? Did they say they used the product they are advertising?

When you color your own hair at home, you may get a great result the first time and think, this is great! You saved money NOT seeing a professional colorist and people noticed. So in about 2 1/2 weeks you start to see new hair growth coming in.  A line appears at your scalp, be it light or dark…YOU SEE IT!!! Now what?

You think “I’ll just go get another box of color and do it again.” You’re excited and you mix it up in the bottle and apply the color all over your hair, just like the instructions say. You wait the allotted time. Say you’ve picked a dark blonde color and your virgin hair color is Medium Brown. You rinse your hair out and wash it with the shampoo that comes in the box and use the conditioner. You’re ready to style your hair. You look in the mirror…”OOPS, the ends are much darker that the hair that was at the scalp,  the hair appears to have about 3 different shades going from scalp to ends…. HELP!”

What happened? New hair growth is like a newly paved road, smooth, fresh hair that accepts the color perfectly. What the box didn’t tell you is that by applying the color all over  to the shaft and ends of your hair, consequently the much older hair, that has been through alot with “potholes” (referring to a paved round after a rough winter),  it drives the dominating pigment into the ends, making them much darker than the color expected on the box.

Now what? You’ve saved money NOT visiting a salon. Now you must call a professional and corrective color is necessary. Corrective Color is an individualized service. What you’ve used for color and the desired color you are looking for,  has to be considered and action taken to achieve these results. To remove home box color can be damaging, time consuming with varied results,  if your colorist is not versed in this sort of de-colorizing services. This is an expensive mistake most people that color their own hair encounter.

So, when you’re considering hair color, come see us. Visit Reflections West Salon. We will take the time to consult with you. We use color swatches, educating you on all of our color services, so you pay for a professional on target color that you’ve pick out. No guessing…

We offer highlights, lowlights, semi permanent (a non-commitment color) demi and permanent color and Organic Hair Color to name some of the color services we offer.

We also offer Feather Hair Extensions. No commitment, just fun colors added to your own hair.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Shampoo and Relaxing Scalp Massage

March 27, 2011 By: manager Category: Shampoo and Relaxing Scalp Massage

How often has this happened to you? Sit, Cut and Bye. Your haircut, cheap, fast and nothing to write home about.

Shampoo and a Scalp Massage is the MOST relaxing service hairdressers can perform. The reason they often are not offered is because of pricing and lack of experience. If you’re paying a super low price for a haircut, that’s what you’ll get, a cut and that’s it. Shampooing and scalp massage requires mastery in this relaxing art. Adding a shampoo and a relaxing scalp massage to your service will yield all sorts of benefits, from relaxation to tension relief to other healing properties. So the next time you go to your stylist for a haircut, ask for a shampoo and  scalp massage and see what you’ve been missing. Have you looked at your hair lately? Take a few strands of hair and really look at the ends. Do you need a haircut? Long hair looks healthy when you use the correct products and get a haircut regularly. We recommend every 4 to 5 weeks to trim hair. If your hair has been medium to long for far too long, think about a new short cut. It’s Spring and change is good. Short cuts can enhance facial features and be really easy to work with. Coloring short hair is less expensive to color and can be lots of fun when it comes to creativity. So what are you waiting for?

Dimensional Hair Color

February 23, 2011 By: manager Category: Dimensional Color

There are many colors to choose when you are looking to add some dimension to your hair color. It is fun to add colors to different areas throughout your hair. If you would like to draw attention to your eyes for instance, some lowlights would bring focus to your eyes. If  lightening up your face is what you desire, highlights are what you’re looking for. Dimensional colors are colors that are similar but with different tones of color. Have fun with it. Bring in some outrageous colors for fun. If you wear your hair up, make sure to include the underneath hairline to create some focus there. Add several shades of blonde to the top with Spring around the corner, it will lighten you up a bit. If you have dark hair, add some reddish, copper or coffee tones to your hair. It’s all fun. Remember that it is important to follow any color service with a Clear Gloss Shine Treatment. When done with a color service it is affordable and necessary to maintain your color and shiny color is everyones goal for their hair. Shampoo and conditioner that is laurel sulfate free is also important for hair color longevity.
